A GEOGRAPHY OF AGRICULTURE IN THE UNITED STATES’ SOUTHEAST by J. R. ANDERSON The author analyzes the profound changes which took place in one of the oldest agricultural areas of the United States, in the earlier cotton-belt and in Florida. He gives a vivid description of the transformation that ensued after World War II in the named area’s agriculture — an agriculture with a long tradition of slave-holding plantation system. After acquainting the reader with the technical transformation of cotton production and its losing importance, and with the mass transmigration of Negro small-farmers which introduced new elements into the structure of production and the social conditions of agriculture — the author gives a summary of the most important changes and describes the new types of farms. The text is well illustrated with figures and maps. AKADÉMIAI KIADÓ PUBLISHING HOUSE OF THE HUNGARIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES BUDAPEST
