Balázs András: Control of cell proliferation by endogenous inhibitors (Budapest, 1979)

CONTROL OF CELL PROLIFERATION BY ENDOGENOUS INHIBITORS by A. BALÁZS with the contribution of I. BLAZSEK In the past fifteen years considerable progress has been made in the research of endogenous inhibitory and stimulating substances controlling normal and pathological cell growth. It is a special merit of this book that, beside presenting the authors’ own results, it attempts to systematize, confront and reconcile current theories and the data of a vast literature. Various isolation and assay techniques are surveyed, a new theory of the control of cell proliferation and oncogenesis is put forward, and the prospects of the therapeutic use of these substances are dealt with. A separate chapter is devoted to the chemical and physicochemical characterization of known endogenous inhibitors. A valuable source of up-to-date information for research workers in a wide range of fields including, among others, cell biology, biochemistry, embryology, genetics, immunology, haematology and oncology.
