Preface

PREFACE In the last quarter of century interest in the field of coordination chemistry has increased enormously. One indication of this is the increasing number of meetings dealing with different aspects of coordination chemistry. Undoubtedly the International Conference on Coordination Chemistry take the dominant role in this field but the part played by the satellite meetings which have appeared, such as our own Symposium, is also of some significance. The success of our 2nd Symposium, Tihany, 1964 held just after the 8th ICCC in Vienna, and the favourable reception of its Proceedings encouraged us to organize the present Symposium shortly before the 13th ICCC to be held in Cracow - Zakopane. It was found in Tihany that the discussions were highly promoted by the early publication of the Collection of Symposium Papers. Therefore we again decided to publish in advance the full text of the papers to be discussed. The present Volume contains the text of the 48 contributed papers dealing with the chemistry of mixed ligand and outer-sphere complexes. It was felt that these subjects are important enough to choose them as the only topics to be discussed at our meeting. The Second Volume of the Proceedings will contain the text of the plenary lectures and also the full discussion material. We do hope that the discussions will be vivid and that many interesting and important ideas will emerge. I should like to express my sincere gratitude to all authors for their kind cooperation in making possible the publication of this Volume well before the meeting. I am much obliged to Dr. David Durham and to Mr. Imre Farkas for their help in the editorial work. Debrecen, May 1970. Mihály T. Beck
