Bognárné Kutzián Ida: The early copper age Tiszapolgár culture in the Carpathian Basin - Archaeologia Hungarica, Series nova 48. (Budapest, 1972)

Ida Bognár-Kutzián THE EARLY COPPER AGE TISZAPOLGÁR CULTURE IN THE CARPATHIAN BASIN The dawn of the Copper Age in the vast plain of the Carpathian Basin is characterized by the Tiszapolgár Culture. The changes marking the beginning of a new era brought the Neolithic way of life to an end and started a period of peaceful integration in which raw material production, local metal crafts and trade could develop. Abounding in illustrations, the book enlists and analyses all the relics of this culture found in Hungary most of them first published and complements them with finds from the other regions of the Carpathian Basin. The author follows a new path in determining the chronology of the cultures on the basis of their dominance in the history of the individual regions. The examinations are extended into the Late Neolithic and also into the further history of the Copper Age. A new chronological picture emerges from the representation of the cultural horizons embracing East- Central and Southeast Europe. The merits pointed out by the reviewers of Miss Bognár-Kutzián’s previous works historical outlook, deep-going analysis and synthesis based on an interdisciplinary approach, refinement of methods, a wide knowledge of sources, strict criticism and objectivity — are all present in this book too.
