Bogsch Albert: Diagnostic pneumomediastinum (Budapest, 1966)

A. Bogsch and A. Leszler DIAGNOSTIC PNEUMOMEDIASTINUM The book is based on almost 500 insufflations of gas into the mediastinum performed at the 2nd Department of Medicine, University Medical School, Budapest. The results from most of the cases examined clinically are supported by biopsy, surgical or dissection findings. The General Part describes the history of the method, the structure of the mediastinum and its connections with the neighbouring regions. Spontaneous and artificial pneumomediastinum and their characteristics are dealt with. Besides technical matters, mainly specific problems are emphasized, i. e. position of the air, spread of the gas and its penetration mechanism into the mediastinum. The value of the ascending methods is assessed. Complications, tolerance, indications and contraindications are demonstrated. In the Detailed Part the X-ray visualization of various healthy and diseased mediastinal organs is described. AKADÉMIAI KIADÓ PUBLISHING HOUSE OF THE HUNGARIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES Budapest V.
