Boros Ádám: An atlas of recent European moss spores (Budapest, 1975)

AN ATLAS OF RECENT EUROPEAN MOSS SPORES by ÁDÁM BOROS and MAGDA JÁRAI-KOMLÓDI The present volume discusses those European moss spores that are important in the circumboreal region. These spores are potentially recoverable from fossil materials, thus being essential paleobotanically. In addition, such forms are treated whose knowledge may be significantfrom the viewpoints of the geography, taxonomy and phylogeny of mosses. The descriptions, biological and palynological, of over two hundred species and their detailed illustrations by original photomicrographs are presented in the book. The photographs made with optical microscope have been magnified uniformly 1000 times, the scanning eledronmicrographs being of 1000 to 10 000 magnification. In soil stratigraphic elaborations, scientific (e.g. mining, hydrology) information of both ecological and practical importance may be furnished by the identification of fossil moss spores. This book may largely contribute to this. AKADÉMIAI KIADÓ PUBLISHING HOUSE OF THE HUNGARIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES BUDAPEST ISBN 963 05 0212 7
