Drobni Sándor: Surgery of rectal cancer (Budapest, 1969)

S. DROBNI AND F. INCZE SURGERY OF RECTAL CANCER The volume covers all the contemporary surgical aspects of rectal tumours. In the section devoted to aetiology and prevention the rules of conduct in rectal polyps are documented by personal observations. A brief outline is given of the current surgical procedures for the therapy of familial polyposis. The points of operability and resectability are made clear and a firm position is taken as regards the selection of the type of operation. The principles underlying modem preoperative management and surgical anaesthesia find due consideration. The volume concentrates on the surgical methods used for the therapy of rectal carcinoma. Its particular feature is the assembling of all the surgical procedures (some 48 in number) which have ever been employed for rectal tumours, including those which are merely of historical interest today. The four main types currently used by the authors are described in detail and their individual indication and merits are discussed. In addition to the classical sources, the surgical literature of the last five years is referred to. The volume is primarily intended for surgeons including urologists and gyneacologists, but in view of its special sections, it should be of interest also to physicians and general practitioners.
