Kállay For more than fifty years, the chemistry and biological actions of flavonoid compounds have been very actively investigated by Hungarian researchers. Recognition of this work is reflected by the international attendance at the Bioflavonoid Symposia held periodically in Hungary. This collection of the papers presented at the 4th Symposium deals with many topics of current interest, such as prenylated flavonoids, isoflavans, neoflavonoids, natural 2,5-dihydroxyflavanones, proanthocyanidins, new synthetic flavonoid glycosides, etc.; lectures on 13C- NMR- and mass spectroscopy illustrate the modern techniques applied to flavonoid research; up-to-date accounts are given on the metabolism, biological action and antioxidant effect of flavonoids.
