OIHUMENE Studia ad historiam antiquam classicam orientalem spectantia Economic and Social Problems of the Ancient World Edited by I. Hahn L. Kákosy—E. Maróti — J. Sarkady The Oikumene Annual is a common undertaking of Hungarian scholars of ancient history. With its first volume just published an annual series starts. Each volume contains valuable papers dealing mainly with the socio-economic problems of antiquity. In the present volume (and, also, in the subsequent ones) the articles embrace different aspects of the socioeconomic, political and ideological life both of the ancient East and of classical antiquity. The editors and the authors intend to focus on questions the treatment of which may lead to generalizations beyond the limited framework of particular problems. The studies presented in the first volume cover such themes as the structure of ancient societies, the legal, ideological and religious concomitants of the early class relations, the nature of ancient ownership and different (legal, political, military) aspects of social conflict. In subsequent volumes contributions from specialists abroad will be welcome.
