GENRE, STRUCTURE AND REPRODUCTION IN ORAL LITERATURE Edited by LAURI HONKO and VILMOS VOIGT This volume presents the material of the first Finnish-Hungarian folkloristic symposium held in Budapest. The introduction surveys the history of research into Finnish and Hungarian folklore. This is followed up by studies in English and German dealing with European and Siberian folk poetry. The studies are focussed on general aspects of oral tradition with special regard to different case studies. Several papers approach the questions of genre theory in a comparative way. Contributors to the volume are renowned Finnish and Hungarian folklorists. Due to the great success of this symposium further ones were and will be organized in the same field, the proceedings of which will be issued in Finland and in Hungary. AKADÉMIAI KIADÓ • BUDAPEST
