Issekutz Béla: The chemotherapy of cancer (Budapest, 1969)

В. ISSEKUTZ THE CHEMOTHERAPY OF CANCER The research work of sixty years in the field of chemotherapy of tumours is summarized in this volume. Based on about 1000 publications the author tries to find the reasons why the results of animal experiments cannot be suffciently utilized in the therapy of human tumours. Attention is being drawn to the fact that owing to the irreconcilable differences between animals and man in this respect, no universal solution can be expected from chemical agents. Therefore, cytostatic drugs with a selective action rather than broad spectra should be sought for. The approximately 1000 cytostatic drugs known are to be tested on freshly removed human cancer cells in order to produce prophylactic agents for postoperative use. For the solution of this immense task a research programme based on international efforts is outlined. AKADÉMIAI KIADÓ, BUDAPEST
