Korányi György: Surface properties of silicate glasses (Budapest, 1963)

SURFACE PROPERTIES OF SILICATE GLASSES . by GYÖRGY KORÁNYI D. Eng. Surface effects of different materials have been thoroughly investigated in recent times by scientists in various fields of research. At the same time the use of glass has been extended in science and in everyday life. The author of this work wishes to survey the research done so far on the properties of glass surfaces. Extraordinary chemical resistance, hardness and advantageous mechanical properties characterize silicate glasses as construction materials. The surfaces of glasses however do not behave inertly with various contacting materials of microscopic and submicroscopic size; different reactions and changes are caused by solids, liquids and gases. All these processes are described in a very clear and effective manner, with due regard to the literature and to the re-
