RENAL CORTICAL NECROSIS EXPERIMENTAL INDUCTION BY HORMONES E A. LÁSZLÓ The author describes experimental data which demonstrate the importance of hormones in the development of this extremely serious disease. The first chapter presents a compact survey of the literature on bilateral renal cortical necrosis. In the second chapter an account is given of the methods employed in the complex investigation of the problem: fluorescence and electronmicroscopy; circulation examinations with an isotopic indicator and with a serioangiographic method; in vitro and in vivo measurements of the oxygen uptake of the kidney. The subsequent chapters contain the results of the experimental work: in rats bilateral renal cortical necrosis can be induced by the administration of vasopressin after oestrogen pretreatment. The author contributes new data towards an understanding of the pathomechanism of renal cortical necrosis, which may be of great importance in the prevention of the disease. The work will be of interest to specialists in theoretical and clinical medicine, endocrinology, nephrology, pathology, obstetrics, gynaecology and urology. Akadémiai Kiadó Budapest
