LIGETI (Bibliotheca Orientalis Hungarica 17) The Chair of Turkish Philology of the Eötvös Loránd University at Budapest celebrated the 100th anniversary of its foundation in 1970, on which occasion the present Anniversary Volume has been edited. 20 Hungarian and 20 foreign (American, Czechoslovakian, English, Fron o,b, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Soviet and Turkish) scholars have contributed to it with articles embracing a wide range of themes, both Turcological and Altaic. The book comprises studies on the philological and historical aspects of the ancient Turks, Middle Turcic (Chagatay and Kipchak) and Uyghur philology, Turcic linguistics and folklore, Ottoman literature and history. These are but a few fields which may indicate the richness of material contained in this volume, which is of first-rate importance for Turcologists and Altaists.
