KASZAB The national parks of Hungary are important nature reserves which are also of international interest. They sustain an almost entirely original flora and fauna comprising a significant part of the gene bank of Hungary. The exploration and protection of these values are the task primarily of the staff of the Hungarian Natural History Museum. Hungarian research workers, in cooperation with an international team of collaborators, have now completed the floristical and faunistical exploration of the territory of Hortobágy, the first national park in Hungary. The results of this huge work are planned to be published in three volumes. The first two are designed to treat the fauna, while the third volume the flora of the Hortobágy National Park. The Fauna of the Hortobágy National Park has been edited by S. Mahunka. The first volume lists part of the animals inhabiting the territory of Hortobágy.
