KASZAB The national parks of Hungary are important nature reserves which are also of international interest. They sustain an almost entirely orig­inal flora and fauna comprising a significant part of the gene bank of Hungary. The exploration and protection of these values are the task primar­ily of the staff of the Hungarian Natural History Museum. Hungar­ian research workers, in coopera­tion with an international team of collaborators, have now completed the floristical and faunistical ex­ploration of the territory of Hor­tobágy, the first national park in Hungary. The results of this huge work are planned to be published in three volumes. The first two are designed to treat the fauna, while the third volume the flora of the Hortobágy National Park. The Fauna of the Hortobágy Na­tional Park has been edited by S. Mahunka. The first volume lists part of the animals inhabiting the territory of Hortobágy.
