Major Sándor: Foundations for hammers, reciprocating engines, and other machines, vibration isolation and damping - Dynamics in civil engineering 2. (Budapest, 1980)

DYNAMICS IN CIVIL ENGINEERING ANALYSIS AND DESIGN by ALEXANDER MAJOR The author, Professor Major, the internationally known expert and researcher on vibrations of structural foundations presents in this new work the theoretical and practical problems of dynamics in civil engineering. Since the last editions of his previous books on vibration, industrial development together with the concomitent important problems in dynamics have increased immensely over the whole field. Throughout this period the author has taken an active part in the different stages of development all over the world and has delivered lectures and held seminars and consultations at a great number of universities, scientific institutions and engineering companies. This new treatise is divided into four volumes and contains the history of development, the state of the art and the outlook for future progress providing, thereby, a comprehensive view of this branch of science. The preface, the list of symbols, the abbreviations and the conversion factors are given in the first volume of the book: the bibliography and the index are incorporated in the fourth volume. Detailed contents are given in each volume and, for orientation, brief details are appended of the contents of the other volumes. The work is intended primarily for civil engineers, but is nevertheless of help also to mechanical engineers; at the same time it serves the needs of postgraduate researchers and undergraduates, too.
