Mori, K.: Synthetic chemistry of insect pheromones and juvenile hormones - Recent developments in the chemistry of natural carbon compounds 9. (Budapest, 1979)

RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN THE CHEMISTRY OF NATURAL CARBON COMPOUNDS Volume 9 The 9th volume of the series comprises three independent parts being of interest to organic chemists, biochemists, phytochemists and biologists. The synthesis of insect pheromones and juvenile hormones, commanding an ever increasing interest, is reported in great detail by K. Mori. His presentation includes a large number of synthetic schemes and equations utilizing all the achievements of modern organic chemistry. The review by B. Stoianova- Ivanova deals with changes in the composition of Bulgarian rose flower processed by extractive methods as compared with the older technique of steam distillation. Both products, i. e. rose wax and absolute, have been analyzed in detail for saturated and unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbons, fatty acids, alcohols, ketones, diols, etc., leading to conclusions on the biosynthesis of plant waxes. Chalcone epoxides, deemed to be important intermediates in the biosynthesis of flavonoids are reported by Gy. Litkei. Investigations on the Algar- Flynn-Oyamada reaction are separately discussed, and a new mechanism, revising older ones, is forwarded for its interpretation.
