THE CHANGING FACE OF THE THIRD WORLD: REGIONAL AND NATIONAL STUDIES Edited by J. Nyilas The struggle of the Third-World countries, first for political, then for economic independence, has been, and is still, in a sharp confrontation with the endeavours of the imperialist powers and international monopolies, and very often even with the armed forces of the neo-colonizers. The world capitalist crisis of 1974—1975 still further aggravated the problems of most countries in these parts of the world so that the poorest among them, those most seriously afflicted by the crisis, have often come to be referred to as the “Fourth World”. The authors of this volume — for the most part internationally known Hungarian specialists — have provided a concise and deep analysis of the peculiarities and factors of post-war socio-economic and political development of the regions and countries concerned (Latin America, Tropical Africa, India, Indonesia and Egypt). The reader is also given a comprehensive and well-structured picture of their world-economic position, role and international relations.
