IMMUNOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF ALLERGY AND ALLERGIC DISEASES Edited by E. RAJKA and S. KOROSSY Volume 3 CLINICAL ASPECTS OF AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES Autoimmune reactions have been found to play a major role in the pathogenesis of a growing number of diseases. This has turned the interest of clinicians toward the results of experimental immunology, which might solve long-standing problems of diagnosis and therapy. Frequently occurring autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis, progressive systemic sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis and certain skin diseases as well as less common ones like Sjogren’s syndrome, lung purpura and infertility are described. The individual chapters have been written by practising specialists who summarized their clinical experiences in the light of relevant experimental findings. In each chapter special consideration has been given to current therapeutic possibilities. This is the third member of the eight-volume project; further volumes will discuss allergic diseases according to similar principles. Practising specialists in several branches of clinical medicine will find this book a useful source of up-to-date information.
