Studies in mathematical statistics. Theory and applications (Budapest, 1968)
STUDIES IN MATHEMATICAL STATISTICS THEORY AND APPLICATIONS Edited by K. SARKADI and I. YINCZE The theory of mathematical statistics has shown general progress during the last decades. In Hungary, where research in this line has valuable traditions, the Mathematical Institute of the Academy of Sciences set the aim of extending the application of mathematical statistics. In 1964 an international colloquium, organized by the János Bolyai Mathematical Society and the Scientific Society of Mechanical Engineers, attracted some 60 experts from 9 foreign countries and more than 200 Hungarian participants. The topics discussed covered several theoretical issues, such as the theory of probability, the problems of statistical methods of quality control and the question of life tests. The volume is composed partly of the lectures delivered at the colloquium, partly of the reports of Hungarian experts on their latest results.
