Varjo, Uuno: Finnish farming. Typology and economics - Geography of world agriculture 6. (Budapest, 1977)

UÜNÖ VAR JO FINNISH FARMING TYPOLOGY AND ECONOMICS Agriculture in Finland, one of the northernmost countries of Europe, is, we find from Professor Varjo’s book, an excellent example of man’s ingenuity in adapting to unfavourable natural conditions. Farming has become a major economic sector, and animal husbandry so well developed, that the country is entirely selfsupplying in this respect. A great diversity of forestry products provides another important source of national wealth. Besides analyzing the different agricultural branches and their regional variations, the wellknown Finnish geographer gives a very good description of the socio-economic organization and geographical structure of the agricultural regions, employing a new method for the simple expression of marginal utility theory, and for the analysis of agricultural rentability.
