Vermes Miklós: The fundamental questions of criminology (Budapest - Leyden, 1978)

THE FUNDAMENTAL QUESTIONS OF CRIMINOLOGY Miklós Vermes The theoretical questions of criminology and all the premises which refer to criminality and crime as a social phenomenon are analysed in the six chapters of this book. The author gives an analysis of the related history of ideas, with recourse to the historical method. Similarly, the subject matter of criminology is investigated within the framework of a historical analysis. The discussions and statements which are made in relation to causal relationship rely to a considerable extent on factual research. Because of the multidisciplinary nature of criminology, its category in the system of sciences, and the various aspects of its interdisciplinary nature, as well as the associated marginal issues, are given emphasis in the discussion. A separate chapter is devoted to the role of criminology in criminal policy, a role which essentially defines its scope as a whole. Steveral conclusions are advanced with regard to the general questions of methodology and research techniques.
