Zoltán János: Atlas of skin repair (Budapest, 1984)

J. ZOLTÁN, Budapest ATLAS OF SKIN REPAIR 304 p., 267 fig. with numerous illustrations, hard cover, 1984 ISBN 963 05 3244 1 This volume represents the first single source of theoretical and applied knowledge on the techniques of skin repair. Presented in illustrated form, this information becomes immediately useful to all researchers and clinicians involved in reconstructive, operative, and traumatological surgery who frequently encounter problems of skin repair and must maintain a full command of its principles and methods. Throughout the atlas, highly practical notions are expressed with pictures and a text of minimum length. The most important methods are demonstrated using photographs combined with line drawings. Schematic drawings are used to depict the principles behind the procedures, while detailed serial photographs represent specific operative techniques. Material is presented in short, functional units and can be rapidly retrieved using the titles and pictograms which appear as headings on each page. The book is organized into two parts, the first devoted to general principles and techniques of skin repair and the second dealing with applications in different body regions. Part I opens with introductory comments concerning the definition, diagnosis, and examination of skin defects as well as the choice of technique for skin repair. The discussion of principles and methods which follows moves systematically from pedicle flaps and flaps in the immediate region of the defect to procedures implicating nearby and distant regions. Material presented in Part II, although much more specific and detailed, is equally well arranged. Skin repair and reconstruction techniques are demonstrated for nearly every surface region of the body. Frequently encountered problems receive close attention and are amply illustrated through case reports. An extensive bibliography gives suggestions for further reading. While offering extremely useful information for beginners, ‘Atlas of Skin Repair’ will also be appreciated by experienced plastic surgeons, traumatologists, and surgeons treating dermatoma who need expert guidance in planning and performing operations involving skin repair.
