The title of the book series refers to the intellectual group gathered around the University of Pannonia [Vniversitas Pannonica]. Members of this group want to present the rich scientific life of the Faculty of Modern Philology and Social Sciences when initiating this series of publications that include pieces of work from philology through the social sciences to modem pedagogy. Meanwhile the influence of the thinking presented in these books reaches far beyond the frames of the Faculty, to the whole University and even more, to the whole Pannonia as well. The title of the series refers on the one hand to the idea of the "universality" of the research published in the volumes; on the other hand, to the connections of the studies presented to the regional, national and European cultural traditions. It also demonstrates the openness of the scientific approach characteristic to the University towards the ever-changing world and to the readiness to offer intellectual answers regarding the old or new phenomena by responding to the challenges and changes of the world we live in. What difference can this series guarantee as compared to traditional university publications? Basically the form and amount of the work presented here provide larger space than a publication in a scientific magazine, thus to raise and analyze important issues can be more dynamic here than in a monthly periodical. Our volumes first and foremost contain the results of scientific research on the fields of humanities, as it is characteristic to our Faculty. Texts will be published in anthropology, linguistics, literary science, cultural sciences, pedagogy, theater science, history, and political science. The editors' intention is to present the whole intellectual potential of the University of Pannonia. We do hope that our Readers will appreciate the books not only owing to their interest in the presented scientific achievements but they will also be satisfied with both the currentness of the content and the attractive design. We plan to publish 15-20 volumes yearly, based on the cooperation between the Publishing House "Gondolat" (Thought) and the University of Pannonia.
